Strawfire at Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, Abu Dhabi

I was commissioned to oversee the creation of the Toyama Private Dining Room at Strawfire by Ross Shonhan, Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, Abu Dhabi. As part of the project, I commissioned the world’s largest synthetic Shimenawa rope—a 7.3-meter, 830kg masterpiece crafted by skilled artisans in Toyama, Japan. From securing the artisans to project managing the entire process, I ensured the Shimenawa was created and installed seamlessly, from Japan to the UAE. Additionally, I guided the creation of original hand-painted artwork to cover the walls and ceiling and commissioned a bespoke rickshaw and handcrafted sedge hats for uniforms, each designed to immerse diners in Japan’s cultural heritage.

If you’re seeking bespoke, high-impact installations that honour Japanese artistry and craftsmanship, I’d love to help bring your vision to life. Contact me for unique commissions that elevate your dining or brand experience.
