ABOUT ME
My infatuation with Japan started during a family trip to Expo 88 in Brisbane where I was captivated by the Japan Pavilion. Thinking about it, my childhood love of Japanese TV shows like Monkey Magic and Astro Boy probably also played a part! In high school, I embarked on a transformative one-year exchange living with a Japanese family in the rural northern prefecture of Akita. Determined to deepen my understanding of Japanese culture and society, I then pursued studies in Japanese, anthropology, and international politics at Tsuda College in Tokyo and the Australian National University in Canberra.

18 Years with the Japanese Government
After graduating, I embarked on a transformative journey living and working in the captivating subtropical islands of Okinawa. Immersed in their distinct identity and unique cultural heritage, I gained a deeper understanding of the diversity within Japan and strengthened my commitment to promoting and preserving its cultural richness. This dedication led me to London, where I spent nearly 14 years as Head of Marketing & Communications for the Japan National Tourism Organization.
During my tenure, I led on a wide array of impactful projects, from coordinating TV shoots and press trips to developing comprehensive marketing campaigns. I also played a key role in crisis communication efforts following the devastating 2011 earthquake and tsunami, ensuring accurate and empathetic messaging during a critical time.

Representing Japanese Destinations & Creative Talent
Fluency in Japanese, certification as a sake sommelier, a diploma in journalism, and the GSTC Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism showcase my commitment and expertise in this field. What truly inspires me, however, is Japan's extraordinary regional diversity. Having explored 46 of Japan's 47 prefectures (just Gunma remains!), I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the hidden gems that lie beyond the well-trodden paths of Tokyo and Kyoto. With Japan facing the challenges of overtourism in these major cities, my passion for promoting lesser-known destinations has never been more important. My mission is to support these regions in sharing their unique stories and to amplify the work of Japan's talented artists, chefs, brewers, craftspeople, and designers.
