Translation & Content Creation
Japanese and English are so different that simply translating text word-for-word does not work. I use my knowledge of the Japanese language and culture, combined with my many years of PR and marketing experience, to transform Japanese and English copy into engaging stories.
Examples of my work can be viewed below:
Examples of work
-
JAPAN NATIONAL TOURISM ORGANIZATION
For close to 14-years I was Head of PR, Marketing and Communications at Japan National Tourism Organization’s London office, in charge of promoting Japan as a travel destination across UK, Ireland, Northern Europe and Middle East markets. I have continued to produce content for the JNTO since going freelance with recent projects including Japan’s Local Treasures - copywriting destination guides and social media posts for lesser-known attractions in Japan, and editing copy for a brochure about luxury travel in Japan.

JAPAN CONVENTION BUREAU
During the Covid-19 pandemic years of 2020-2022, Japan was closed to non-essential travel. This proved challenging for Japan Convention Bureau, who contracted me for LinkedIn post copywriting and translating and copywriting articles and conference reports for the Japan Convention Bureau website to keep their communications active through this difficult period. Examples of my work, can be see via conference case study reports e.g. One Young World Tokyo Caucus 2020 and articles providing tips for Meetings, Inentives, Conferences, and Events in Japan, such as Food Experiences to Make Part of Your Japan Event and 10 Tips for doing Business in Japan.

TOYAMA
To promote Toyama as a travel destination and to support Toyama craftspeople, designers, and food and drink producers, Toyama Prefectural Government sponsored a pop-up shop and series of food and drink events in London. As the Toyama products had never been promoted outside Japan before, there was not information about them in English. I did translation and copywriting for all brand and artists stories for a Toyama e-commerce site and retail pop-up in London, and produced content to promote Toyama. Click the links to read examples:
• Take a journey through Toyama
• Japanese metal craft workshop with a Buddhist bell artisan
• A 120-year-old Japanese farmhouse is revived as an art hotel infused with local culture

JAPAN HOUSE LONDON
Deepening understanding of Japanese culture in an easy-to-understand and engaging way is one of my favourite aspects of my work. I have produced stories for Japan House London’s website on a variety of topics, including:
• Iwami Kagura - Dancing for the Gods
• Japanese Ironware Craft by OIGEN
